THE COPPA MILANO-SANREMO IS OFFICIALLY STARTED

The 15th commemoration of Italy’s oldest race starts at the Autodromo Tazio Nuvolari in Cervesina.

14th–17th MARCH 2024

Milan, March 14th 2024

The 15th Historical Commemoration of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo, Italy’s most glamorous and emblazoned race, has officially started from the Autodromo Tazio Nuvolari in Cervesina. From today until Sunday 17 March, over eighty cars of great prestige and historical value will compete along a revolutionary route of over 1000 kilometres with the same spirit as always and the same passion as the gentlemen drivers who conceived it in 1906.

The crews, both Italian and foreign, will cross the territories of Lombardy, Piedmont, Liguria and the Principality of Monaco, to then return to Milan, tackling 115 special stages along the way, which will make the race even more enthralling and captivating from a sporting point of view. The Automobile Club Milano is once again this year the body that officially patronises and supports the event and, through its sports body ACI Sport, gives it competitive status in the Italian Major Events Championship, which will open with the Coppa Milano Sanremo, continuing with the Mugello Road Circuit, the Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti and the Targa Florio Classica.

The 15th commemoration of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo officially got underway this morning at the newly renovated Autodromo Tazio Nuvolari of Cervesina, where the usual technical and sporting scrutineering and free laps were held from 9.30 AM to 12.30 AM, preceding the start of the race with the first demanding regularity trials, which this year are run from 14.30.

Among the eighty cars of great prestige and historical value that gathered this morning, fifty-six were classic cars and twenty-four modern. Great protagonists on the track were the Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 Super Sport from 1929 and the Lancia Stratos Stradale from 1975. Also present were the 1963 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale, the 1952 Lancia Aurelia B20 GT, and finally a beautiful Lancia Aurelia B24 Spider.

The first day of the competition concludes with the official opening in the charming spaces of the Hotel Melià, where the event’s institutional partners will also be presented.

Tomorrow, Friday 15 March, the crews will set off from the evocative setting of the San Siro Hippodrome in Milan on their way to the first time trials that will pass through the Langhe region. The consolidated partnership with Consorzio Asti Docg this year will take the historic cars to make a pit stop at the Underground Cathedrals of Canelli, where Italian sparkling wine was actually invented. On Saturday 16 March the crews will depart from Monte Carlo in the direction of Dolceacqua where the first regrouping of the day is scheduled, in view of the first demanding special stages that will take place on Colle Langan from where the crews will start their descent towards the sea where the light lunch will take place at the prestigious Yacht Club of Marina di Loano. 15TH COPPA MILANO-SANREMO HISTORIC COMMEMORATION: INSTANT CLASSIC

Four days of competition in the name of glamour, style, motors and breathtaking landscapes along a route of over 1000 kilometres that will take the crews from Milan to Sanremo to return to the Lombardy capital on Sunday, after a stop on the third day in Monte Carlo.

14th–17th MARCH 2024

Genoa, March 12nd 2024

The legendary Coppa Milano-Sanremo is back, a blend of glamour, style, engines and breathtaking landscapes that has always characterised Italy’s most charming and emblazoned competition. Now in its 15th Historical Commemoration, the ‘Lady of the Races’ heats up the engines for an iconic edition.

From 14 to 17 March 2024, Italian and foreign crews, both male and female, will have the opportunity to test themselves on a route made even more technical by an increase in the number of special stages, which now exceed 100, including average stages. More than 1000 kilometres of competition and more than 140 municipalities will be crossed with the aim of creating an even more exciting and exclusive race format than in past editions, without forgetting tradition.

A return to tradition is planned for this XV Historical Commemoration, which will however retain some of the main innovations introduced last year, namely the start and finish in Milan, confirming a circular route and four days of competition. The headlights will be on Liguria, a region that will enthusiastically welcome the crews and host a significant part of the competition.

Augusto Sartori, Liguria Region’s Councillor for Tourism and Major Events says: ‘We have already reached the fifteenth edition of an event that has become an early spring classic. One cannot help but be fascinated by seeing splendid vintage cars speeding along the steep, winding, cliffside roads of our Liguria region. A fascination that every year attracts not only motor enthusiasts but also the merely curious, who flock in large numbers to admire these magnificent bolides that recall the days of yore when car drivers were considered true heroes. Once again this year, the route will cover both Ligurian Rivieras: it is yet another way to promote our region, which I am sure will be able to welcome all the participants of the race as warmly as ever’.

Simona Ferro, the Liguria Region’s Councillor for Sport and Youth Policies, continues: “As a great fan of engines and vintage cars, I can only congratulate the organisers of this historic event and wish all participants the best of luck. The Historical Re-enactment of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo allows Liguria to show once again to a national and international audience its breathtaking views. A splendid postcard of our territory that, as every year, will have a large space within the race route. I am certain that the unique atmosphere that will be breathed during the Milano-Sanremo, combined with the marvel of the vintage cars and the evocative views of the Ligurian Riviera, will make all those who will take part in the event for the first time fall in love with our region”.

“Genoa is ready to welcome the historic commemoration of the Milano-Sanremo, which will again this year pass through the centre of our city on Sunday. The passage of the event will be an opportunity for many fans and not only to be able to see from close up the cars of the most fascinating and emblazoned race in Italy, but also for our city to make known its beauty, from the Riviera to the hinterland. I would like to thank the organisers for once again bringing to the heart of Genoa a very popular and evocative event, with the timeless charm of a race that combines competition with the discovery of the territory,’ concludes the Councillor for Traditions and Commerce of the Municipality of Genoa Paola Bordilli.

The Automobile Club Milano will once again this year be the body that officially sponsors and supports the event, and through its sporting body ACI Sport, will make it part of the Italian Major Events Championship, which will open with the Coppa Milano Sanremo, continuing with the Circuito Stradale del Mugello, the Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti and the Classic Targa Florio. The cars allowed to take part in the special classification will be those produced from the early days up to and including 1965, in contrast to the Legend category, which will include the remaining historic cars produced from 1966 up to and including 1990. Like last year, there will also be the opportunity to participate in the so-called ‘Rendez-Vous’, the exclusive Tribute reserved for modern supercars and the most iconic youngtimers built from 1991 to the present day.

The XV Historical Commemoration boasts illustrious sponsors: the Consorzio dell’Asti DOCG, as official partner for the beverage sector, Nashi Argan – Official beauty sponsor for the prizes dedicated to the Coppa delle Dame, Novelli 1934, the oldest Mercedes-Benz dealership in Europe, owned by the BIAUTO GROUP, the best brands in one big dealership, Marina di Loano S.p.A., which will host one of the most fascinating stages of the route, Wyler Vetta, Official Time Keeper who will present the exclusive watch dedicated to the Coppa Milano-Sanremo; Poste Italiane, which on Sunday 17 March, during the event at the headquarters of the Automobile Club Milano, will welcome fans by presenting them with stamped and cancelled postcards. In addition, all participants in the competition will receive an event postcard with a stamp dedicated to the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza on the centenary of its construction; Valandro Group, an insurance agency highly specialised in the management of all insurance risks, but with a distinct expertise in taking care of all insurance needs related to the corporate world.

The 2024 route

Day 1

The event will get underway on Thursday 14 March with an important newness – dictated by the temporary closure of the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza for the modernisation works planned in anticipation of the next Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix – namely the meeting of the crews at the Tazio Nuvolari Racetrack    of Cervesina, which after the recently completed extension works, now measures a total of 5260 metres with a straight of no less than 970 metres, having added 2,454 linear metres more than before. This will be followed by the accreditation, the usual technical and sporting checks and the free laps on the track that will precede the start of the race with the first and demanding special stages to be held in the afternoon.

This will be followed by the official opening gala dinner, which will be held in the fascinating spaces of the Hotel Melià, where the event’s institutional partners will also be presented.

Day 2

At first light on Friday 15 March, the crews will set off on the second day of the race from the evocative setting of the San Siro Hippodrome in Milan, heading for the first time trials that will cross the Langhe area.

“We consolidate our relationship with the historical commemoration of the iconic Coppa Milano – Sanremo, which has already seen us as Official Partner of the past editions of one of the instant classics of Italian motor racing,” says the vice-president of the Consorzio Asti Docg, Stefano Ricagno. A partnership that this year will lead the historic cars to make a pit stop at the Underground Cathedrals of Canelli, where Italian sparkling wine was actually invented. The route will include a route that will touch the Unesco heritage wine-growing landscape of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, all areas included in the production of Asti Docg”.

Many, therefore, are the elements that distinguish and contribute to recall the timeless charm of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo, which over the years has seen great champions of the wheel and illustrious personalities from the international jet set race, testifying to the exclusivity and peculiarity of the race, which combines tradition, competition, elegance and savoir-faire in a perfect mix.

The XV Historical Re-enactment of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo is promoted by Equipe Grand Prix, Automobile Club Milano, ACI Storico, ACI Sport, Milano Corse, Epoca Championship and sponsored by: Lombardy Region, Liguria Region, Piedmont Region, Municipality of Milan, Municipality of Canelli, Municipality of Sanremo, Municipality of Dolceacqua, Municipality of Loano, Municipality of Rapallo, Municipality of Genoa, Municipality of Piovera, Municipality of Sassello.

PASSANANTE AND MOLGORA WIN THE XIV HISTORICAL REVIVAL OF THE REVOLUTIONARY COPPA MILANO-SANREMO AND BACK

23 – 26 MARCH 2023

Milan, 26 March 2023

The XIV Rievocazione Storica della Coppa Milano Sanremo and back officially ended with the victory of Passanante and Molgora – crew number 3 – at the wheel of a 1937 Fiat 508 C, who drove an extraordinary race. Great performance also for the second classified crew (number 5) formed by Di Pietra and Di Pietra with a 1938 Fiat 508 C. Third place went to Loperfido and Corneliani, crew number 4, in a 1938 Lancia Aprilia, in what was a hard-fought race right to the last lap, full of twists and turns right to the finish line.

Competition, spectacle, tradition and savoir faire made this 14th Rievocazione Storica an unmissable appointment with unique and exclusive charm thanks to the same spirit as always and the same passion of the gentlemen drivers who conceived it in 1906. The ‘Lady’ of the races offered the over one hundred participating crews an edition full of unmissable, logistical and sporting novelties along a revolutionary route of over 900 kilometres through the territories of Lombardy, Piedmont and Liguria, where over 115 special stages were held. This year the competition saw Milan as the starting and finishing point for the first time ever, thus transforming the route from linear to circular and increasing the actual race days from three to four.

The crews gathered on Thursday 23 March at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza where the competition officially started with the 24 new special stages along the legendary elevated roads of the famous temple of speed. On Friday 24 March, the race set off in the direction of Sanremo, passing through the evocative territories of the Langhe; yesterday, Saturday 25 March, the crews were able to challenge each other between the hinterland and the sea of the Ligurian territory to then arrive in Genoa, where the dinner was held in an exceptional location: the Aquarium of Genoa. During the evening the winning crews of the dynamic elegance contest by Riva Brand Experience, Joint Presenting Partner of the Rievocazione Storica, were awarded prizes.

The first classified for the pre-war category up to 1945 was crew number 1 composed of Belotti and Plebani with a 1927 Bugatti T37A, for the classic cars from 1946 to 1990 the prize was won by Collins and Gay – crew number 36 – with the 1960 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Roadster. Volpi and Lombardi – crew number 123 – with the Pagani Huayra HP from 2023 were the first runners-up for youngtimer cars from 1991 to 2023. Crew 26 – Trazzi and Giulini – with the 1955 Porsche 356 Speedster took the prize for the most stylish crew.

This morning the crews set off from Piazza De Ferrari in the centre of Genova to take the decisive tests, tackled the ascent of Monte Fasce to Uscio, crossed the territories of the Portello Pass and Mongiardino Ligure, and then arrived in Milan, where after a spectacular arrival in the heart of the historic centre, the final prize-giving ceremony was held at the headquarters of AC Milano in Corso Venezia, which this year celebrates its 120th anniversary. An important milestone that the Coppa Milano Sanremo is honoured to celebrate, sharing with the renowned club the spirit and culture of the cars that have made history.

“Also in this edition of the Coppa Milano Sanremo we touched the passion of all those who love cars: drivers, co-drivers, mechanics and more. Adults and children all along the route and during the stops looked in admiration at these authentic jewels on four wheels, which represent history, culture and technological development. Today a milestone was set up in front of our headquarters to celebrate the 120th anniversary of Automobile Club Milano. It is one of the initiatives (we have others in the pipeline) to celebrate this important anniversary as it deserves,’ said Geronimo La Russa, President of Automobile Club Milano.

The XIV Rievocazione Storica was accompanied by several titles of honour to reward the first 10 crews in the general classification of the historic regularity and the first 10 crews in the general classification of the ‘Rendez-Vous’.
