COPPA MILANO-SANREMO: OFFICIAL START TODAY OF THE XII RE-ENACTMENT

May 7th 2021– The XII Historical Re-enactment of the Milano – Sanremo Cup, the most charming and ancient race in Italy, has its official start this morning from Milano, which will be held from today to 8 May 2021, with the same spirit and the same passion of the “gentlemen drivers” who designed it in 1906, for an edition with a great number of logistical and sporting novelties.

First of all, the route that, for over 700 km along the Milano-Rapallo-Sanremo direction, will offer the “racing cars of the past” the discovery of landscapes with timeless charm, crossing the territories of Lombardy, Piedmont and Liguria, ending in Sanremo. Competition and spectacularity will not be lacking: the crews will be able to compete on over ninety special tests (of which six are average), half of which are different from those proposed during the last edition, to make the entire race even more engaging and attractive from a sporting point of view.

There will be about 75 cars of great prestige and historical value that will take part to the event, with mainly Italian crews, excited to return to the track taking part in the competition that this year, for the first time in its history, will open the Italian Championship Great Events 2021 ACI Sport, reserved for competitions of classical regularity, to confirm the importance of the “Lady” of the races both for the sector and for the fans. At the start, important presence of this year, the iconic Lancia Dilambda “Blue Shadow” of 1930: the car, disappeared in 1940, returns today protagonist thanks to a long and meticulous restoration wanted and coordinated by the current owner.

Also from the Turin House, there will be a 1937 Lancia Aprilia Sport Zagato, one of the most particular cars on the automotive scene; among the other masterpieces in the race, a 1929 Alfa 6C 1750 Zagato SS, along with a 1930 Fiat 514 MM, a Singer Le Mans Ldt. of 1934 and to the pair of BMW 328 of 1938 and 1939, exemplary from the great charm, beyond that from the inestimabile historical value. Great expectations also for the famous Mercedes 300 SL of 1954 and another iconic of the Stuttgart House, a Mercedes 300 SL of 1963; new unmissable of the competition are represented by a Ferrari 330 GT Scaglietti of 1964 and a Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 Lightweight, listed as one of the most significant cars ever.

Yesterday’s day was held between the Autodromo di Monza, where technical, sports and free laps on the track were held and the exclusive inaugural parade in the heart of the city of Milan starting from the headquarters of the Automobile Club Milano, passing through the streets of the Fashion District until you reach the doors of the famous Castello Sforzesco, where the cars were officially presented to the public.

The day ended with the official opening inside the garden of Milano Verticale | UNA Esperienze, the new flagship hotel UNA Group.

Today, Friday, May 7, the crews showed up at the starting line in Piazza XXV Aprile, in the heart of the “New Milan”, with the aim of honoring one of the oldest and most prestigious car competitions. As a backdrop to today’s competition, the evocative scenery of the Langhe, where, during the intermediate break in Priocca, the crews had the unique opportunity to live an unforgettable experience through the visit to “Mondodelvino Wine Experience”, the interactive museum dedicated to wine culture, unique in Italy and Liguria. In fact, in the evening, following the traditional arrival in Rapallo, along the famous “Ruta”, took place an exclusive “défilé” in the fascinating setting of the Marina di Portofino, thanks to the collaboration of the Municipality, an absolute novelty of this edition which was also attended by the Councillor for Sport of the Liguria Region, Simona Ferro.

The XII Historical Reenactment also boasts illustrious partners starting from Urban Up | Unipol, the real estate project dedicated to the valorization of the real estate assets of the Unipol Group and IWC, Schaffhausen, historic brand of excellence Swiss watchmaking and official time keeper, both main sponsors of the event. Of great value is the consolidated partnership with Mercedes-Benz, as institutional partner of the event, through the official dealer Merbag S.p.A., in addition to the renewed collaboration with Cuvage, the Italian excellence of classic method sparkling wine that will be official supplier of the competition for the beverage sector and with Marina di Loano S.p.A., which will host one of the most fascinating stages of the route.

The race started this morning at the Autodromo di Monza, where technical, sports and free laps were held. Thanks to the well-established partnership with Mercedes-Benz, as institutional partner of the event, through the official dealer Merbag S.p.A. the AMG brand lovers had the opportunity to test exclusively their favorite supercars on over 5,700 meters of the legendary Brianza track. In the hospitality lounge of the Autodromo di Monza, Natuzzi Italia took care of the guests of the event with a selection of exclusive products, where it was also presented a special photo exhibition theme, dedicated to automotive passion and the great Mercedes tradition in motorsport.

In the afternoon there was the exclusive inaugural parade in the heart of the city of Milan starting from the headquarters of the Automobile Club Milan, passing through the streets of the fashion district until you get to the gates of the famous Castello Sforzesco, where the cars were officially presented to the public. During the evening there was an exclusive tribute dedicated to 100 years of Moto Guzzi which saw the award ceremony of four models of excellence, evaluated by a jury of experts present at the opening as the maximum expression of the legendary history of the brand

Only four months left before the 12th Historical Revival of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo, the most charming and historically rich Italian race, which this year will take place from 6 to 8 May 2021. The “Lady” of races is warming up her engines for an edition that promises to be full of novelties.
The 12th Historic Revival  will boast illustrious partners, in fact the collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, as institutional partner of the event, through the official dealer Merbag S.p.A. is renewed. Thanks to this partnership, now established, during the opening day of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo at the Autodromo di Monza, the lovers of the AMG brand will have the opportunity to exclusively test their favorite supercars on the more than 5,700 meters of the legendary track.
The hospitality lounge at the Monza circuit will also host a special themed photo exhibition dedicated to the passion for cars and the great Mercedes motorsport tradition.
The partnership with Cuvage, the Italian excellence in classic method sparkling wine, which will be the official supplier of the race for the beverage sector, continues. During the break on the first day of the race in Priocca d’Alba, crews will have the unique opportunity to enjoy a unique and innovative experience by visiting the “Mondodelvino Wine Experience”, the interactive museum dedicated to the culture of wine, unique in Italy.
Registration for the Coppa Milano-Sanremo is now open. Participation in the race will be reserved for cars built between 1906 and 1990, with an F.I.V.A. passport, or F.I.A. Heritage sticker, or A.S.I. homologation, or A.C.I. Sport sticker, or belonging to a brand register. With a view to widening the target audience, the organisers are also working on adding a new category reserved for modern supercars and an exclusive Concours d’Elegance reserved for participating classic cars.

As a result of the current health emergency linked to the spread of Covid-19, the organisers of the Coppa Milano Sanremo decided to postpone the XII Historic Revival, originally scheduled from 25th to 27th March 2021, to 6th to 8th May next, in order to guarantee all participants the correct outcome of the event in the best possible safety conditions.

“Unfortunately last year we were forced to cancel the race less than a month before the start, without having the opportunity to reposition ourselves in a calendar already too dense and crowded with events in rapid succession. In this regard, said Gianpaolo Sacchini – CEO of Equipe Grand Prix, the company that organises the Coppa Milano Sanremo – , we have decided to postpone the event until May next year to be absolutely certain that at that time all the best sanitary conditions, in our opinion indispensable to carry out the XII Historic Revival in complete and absolute serenity, for the participants and for the organisers themselves. And this also in light of the fact that the Coppa Milano Sanremo will, for the first time, open the Campionato Italiano Grandi Eventi 2021“.

THE XII EDITION OF THE HISTORIC REVIVAL OF THE COPPA MILANO-SANREMO WILL BE HELD FROM MARCH 25TH TO 27TH, 2021

Milan, 28 May 2020 – Due to the impossibility of repositioning it within the ACI Sport calendar by the end of the year, the 12th Coppa Milano-Sanremo Historic Revival will be held from 25 to 27 March 2021. The new dates have been chosen in agreement with the local authorities, AC Milano and ACI Sport, so that the race can take place in the best possible way, keeping its unique tradition intact. The organizers of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo Historic Revival emphasize that the decision to postpone the event was also taken to safeguard the health of the participants, the staff and the race commissioners, with the hope that it will take place with the same passion and participation as always.

Participation in the race will be reserved for cars, built between 1906 and 1976, with F.I.V.A. passports, or F.I.A. Heritage fiches, or A.S.I. Homologation, or A.C.I. Sport fiches, or belonging to a brand register.

The twelfth edition of the Revival will be characterized by a technical, evocative and involving route, to make the whole race more selective and attractive from a sporting point of view. There will be no lack of competition and spectacle: the crews will be able to compete in a greater number of special average time trials, for a total of over ninety, in line with the current trend. An adventure over 700 kilometres long during which the “yesterday’s racing cars” will cross many cities of Lombardy, Piedmont and Liguria and landscapes of timeless charm.

After the first day, characterized by the adrenaline-filled rides inside the Monza National Circuit and the parade along the streets of central Milan, the first stage will take place in the beautiful scenery of the Langhe, named World Heritage Site by UNESCO: extraordinary and evocative landscapes, preferred by fans of vintage racing, lovers of classic regularity and slow and gentle tourism. As per tradition, the second stage of the oldest race in Italy will be from Rapallo to Sanremo. To guarantee the competition an even greater international allure, the Coppa Milano-Sanremo, after the arrival in the City of Flowers, will move to Montecarlo for the gala dinner and the final award ceremony. This is a sort of virtual partnership between the Autodromo di Monza and the Principality of Monaco: the two symbolic places of international motorsport.

Many, therefore, the elements that make the event exclusive and unique, able to give competitors the opportunity to compete at the wheel of their cars, both on the track (as per tradition at the legendary Autodromo di Monza), and along the route with the time stages that, together with the beautiful scenery of the Langhe, Rapallo and Sanremo, will help to evoke the timeless appeal of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo.

It is with great regret that Equipe Grand Prix srl, the organizing company of the Coppa Milano Sanremo, is forced to postpone the XII Historic Revival until a date to be set.
In fact, in compliance with the provisions of the Prime Ministerial Decree of 4 March 2020 (art. 1 letter “c”) and subsequent Prime Ministerial Decree of 8 March 2020 (art. 1 letter “d”), as well as the ACI Sport communication of 5 March 2020 and its explanatory note, we have decided to postpone the event to a date to be defined.

Following the evolution of the current health situation, Equipe Grand Prix will evaluate, together with the local authorities, the national ACI and its local Emanations, the possible new dates, so that the Historic Revival can take place in the best possible way, keeping its unique tradition intact.
