15th COPPA MILANO-SANREMO HISTORIC COMMEMORATION: INSTANT CLASSIC

Four days of competition in the name of glamour, style, motors and breathtaking landscapes along a route of over 1000 kilometres that will take the crews from Milan to Sanremo to return to the Lombardy capital on Sunday, after a stop on the third day in Monte Carlo.

14th–17th MARCH 2024

Milan, February 27th 2024

The legendary Coppa Milano-Sanremo is back, a blend of glamour, style, engines and breathtaking landscapes that has always characterised Italy’s most charming and emblazoned competition. Now in its 15th Historical Commemoration, the ‘Lady of the Races’ heats up the engines for an iconic edition.

From 14 to 17 March 2024, Italian and foreign crews, both male and female, will have the opportunity to test themselves on a route made even more technical by an increase in the number of special stages, which now exceed 100, including average stages. More than 1000 kilometres of competition and more than 140 municipalities will be crossed with the aim of creating an even more exciting and exclusive race format than in past editions, without forgetting tradition.

A return to tradition is planned for this XV Historical Commemoration, which will however retain some of the main innovations introduced last year, namely the start and finish in Milan, confirming a circular route and four days of competition.

The Automobile Club Milano will once again this year be the body that officially sponsors and supports the event, and through its sporting body ACI Sport, will make it part of the Italian Major Events Championship, which will open with the Coppa Milano Sanremo, continuing with the Circuito Stradale del Mugello, the Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti and the Targa Florio Classica. The cars allowed to take part in the special classification will be those produced from the early days up to and including 1965, in contrast to the Legend category, which will include the remaining historic cars produced from 1966 up to and including 1990.

Like last year, there will also be the opportunity to participate in the so-called ‘Rendez-Vous’, the exclusive Tribute reserved for modern supercars and the most iconic youngtimers built from 1991 to the present day.

“The Historical Commemoration of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo is one of the events of the ACI Sport’s Italian Great Events Championship 2024.  The competition in each edition has events full of charm and of particular appeal for the public and participants,” says Geronimo La Russa, president of Automobile Club Milano.

“We at Automobile Club Milano are proud to host both the start and finish of the Cup and to guarantee its continued and effective contribution by offering the Milanese the chance to admire the participating cars.

Cars that constitute an immeasurable heritage of history and culture, a veritable travelling museum of Italian and foreign design and technology excellence. This year, after having hosted the start of the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique, we will further cement our relationship with the influential Automobile Club of Monaco by bringing – during the Friday stage – the Coppa Milano-Sanremo to the Principality of Monaco. Moreover, to our great joy, the Cup will, for the first time in its long history, cross paths near Loano with the great cycling classic’.

The XV Historical Commemoration boasts illustrious sponsors: the Consorzio dell’Asti DOCG, as official partner for the beverage sector, Nashi Argan – Official beauty sponsor for the prizes dedicated to the Coppa delle Dame, Novelli 1934, the oldest Mercedes-Benz dealership in Europe, owned by the BIAUTO GROUP, the best brands in one big dealership, Marina di Loano S.p.A., which will host one of the most fascinating stages of the route, Wyler Vetta, Official Time Keeper who will present the exclusive watch dedicated to the Coppa Milano-Sanremo.

The Official Suppliers of the 2024 edition are: Aci Global, Alfa Delta, Argo – Be Traced, ASTI VIBE, Banca di Caraglio, Biclassic&Sport, Castrol, Esteticar, Milano Classiche, OLIO, Zero Time

The 2024 route

Day 1

The event will get underway on Thursday 14 March with an important newness – dictated by the temporary closure of the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza for the modernisation works planned in anticipation of the next Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix – namely the meeting of the crews at the Tazio Nuvolari Racetrack    of Cervesina, which after the recently completed extension works, now measures a total of 5260 metres with a straight of no less than 970 metres, having added 2,454 linear metres more than before. This will be followed by the accreditation, the usual technical and sporting checks and the free laps on the track that will precede the start of the race with the first and demanding special stages to be held in the afternoon.

This will be followed by the official opening gala dinner, which will be held in the fascinating spaces of the Hotel Melià, where the event’s institutional partners will also be presented.

Day 2

At first light on Friday 15 March, the crews will set off on the second day of the race from the evocative setting of the San Siro Hippodrome in Milan, heading for the first time trials that will cross the Langhe area.

“We consolidate our relationship with the historical commemoration of the iconic Coppa Milano – Sanremo, which has already seen us as Official Partner of the past editions of one of the instant classics of Italian motor racing,” says the vice-president of the Consorzio Asti Docg, Stefano Ricagno. A partnership that this year will lead the historic cars to make a pit stop at the Underground Cathedrals of Canelli, where Italian sparkling wine was actually invented. The route will include a route that will touch the Unesco heritage wine-growing landscape of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, all areas included in the production of Asti Docg”.

After the break, the competition will get to the heart of the matter, through the demanding special stages of Colle d’Oggia and Melonio, continuing in the direction of Sanremo, the famous City of Flowers, with the traditional défilé that will wind its way through the streets of the city centre before returning to the exclusive setting of the Principality of Monaco.

Day 3

On Saturday 16 March the crews will depart from Monte Carlo in the direction of Dolceacqua where the first regrouping of the day is scheduled, in view of the first demanding special stages that will take place on Colle Langan from where the crews will start their descent towards the sea where the light lunch will take place at the prestigious Yacht Club of Marina di Loano. In the afternoon there will be, for the first time in its long history, the unprecedented junction with the prestigious Milano Sanremo cycling race that will pass near Loano just after the passage of the last competitor of the Coppa Milano Sanremo. From there, passing through the Colle di Nava and Sassello Passes it will arrive in Rapallo, the heart of Tigullio, in the renovated Porto Carlo Riva.

Day 4

Sunday 17 March will be the decisive day, which will see the competitors start from Rapallo after a passage in Piazza De Ferrari in the city centre of Genoa to contest the last time trials before the final power stage scheduled in the exclusive setting of the Castle Park of Piovera (AL). The Coppa Milano Sanremo will then move to Milan, where after a spectacular finish in the heart of the old town centre, the final prize-giving ceremony will be held at the headquarters of AC Milano in Corso Venezia.

Within this 15th Historical Re-enactment will also be held, as per tradition, the prestigious ‘Ladies Cup’, conceived for the first time at the beginning of the last century, thanks to the conspicuous participation of female crews and the intuition of the organisers of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo.

Many, therefore, are the elements that distinguish and contribute to recall the timeless charm of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo, which over the years has seen great champions of the wheel and illustrious personalities from the international jet set race, testifying to the exclusivity and peculiarity of the race, which combines tradition, competition, elegance and savoir-faire in a perfect mix.

The XV Historical Re-enactment of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo is promoted by Equipe Grand Prix, Automobile Club Milano, ACI Storico, ACI Sport, Milano Corse, Epoca Championship and sponsored by: Lombardy Region, Liguria Region, Piedmont Region, Municipality of Milan, Municipality of Canelli, Municipality of Sanremo, Municipality of Dolceacqua, Municipality of Loano, Municipality of Rapallo, Municipality of Genoa, Municipality of Piovera, Municipality of Sassello.

Cars built between the origins and 1990, with F.I.V.A. passport, F.I.A. Heritage sticker, A.S.I. homologation, A.C.I. Sport sticker, or belonging to a brand register will be admitted. Entries will close on 1 March 2024. The possibility of taking part in the ‘Rendez-Vous’, the exclusive Tribute reserved for modern supercars and the most iconic youngtimers built from 1990 to the present day, has been reconfirmed.
