First novelties of the revolutionary 14th Re-enactment of Italy’s oldest race

Great expectations for the 14th edition of the Historical Re-enactment of the Coppa Milano Sanremo, which promises to be full of novelties and spectacularity. The race, scheduled from 23 to 26 March 2023, reaffirms its presence within the Italian Great Events Championship organised by ACI Sport, reserved for the most important classic regularity races of which the Coppa delle Alpi, the Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti, the Gran Premio Nuvolari and the Targa Florio Classica are also part.

Crews will be able to compete along the revolutionary route of over 900 kilometres between Lombardy, Piedmont and Liguria with the same spirit as always and the same passion as the ‘gentlemen drivers’ who conceived it in 1906. Participation in the race will be reserved for cars built between 1906 and 1990, with F.I.V.A. passport, or F.I.A. Heritage, or A.S.I. homologation, or A.C.I. Sport, or belonging to a brand register, to highlight the important historical heritage of the various groupings. There will also be the opportunity to take part in the ‘Rendez-Vous’, an exclusive tribute reserved for youngtimers, instant classics and modern supercars built from 1990 to the present day.

The ‘Lady of Races’ heats up the engines for an exciting and revolutionary edition, which more than 100 years after its birth never ceases to renew itself and offer an unforgettable occasion of entertainment and timeless fascination.

The event will kick off on Thursday 23 March with the traditional gathering of crews at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, where after the technical and sporting scrutineering and free laps on the track, the race proper will begin with the first timed trials on the legendary track. In the afternoon, the inaugural parade of cars will leave for Milan, where they will be officially presented in front of the historic headquarters of AC Milano, the city’s beating heart.

The following days will be characterised by great changes: at first light on Friday 24 March, the crews will set off from Milan for the first time trials, will drive through the villages of Monferrato, and then head towards Asti, where they will parade through the historic centre. After a break, the competition will get to the heart of the matter, continuing through the Langhe territories, then tackling the Colle d’Oggia and the Melonio; along the afternoon route there will be approximately 60 laps for a total of 5 timed tests and 3 average tests. The second day of the race will end in Sanremo, the famous City of Flowers, with the traditional défilé that will wind along the streets of the city centre.

On Saturday 25 March the competition will start from Sanremo, tackling again the Colle d’Oggia and then passing through the medieval village of Zuccarello, until arriving at the sea for lunch in Loano. In the afternoon, passing through the famous Colle di Nava and Sassello Passes, it will reach the heart of Genova, the final destination of the day, where the exclusive gala dinner will take place. During the third day of the race there will be 4 time trials and 2 average trials, for a total of about 40 laps.

Sunday 26 March will be the decisive day, which will see the cars of yesterday – after a passage in Piazza De’ Ferrari in the centre of Genoa – tackle the climb of Monte Fasce up to Uscio, cross the territories of Val Trebbia and Basso Pavese, and then arrive in Pavia where there will be a time control that will mark the end of the timed part of the race. On this day, there will be two time trials and one average time trial, for a total of approximately 40 laps. The Coppa Milano Sanremo will then move on to Milan, where after a spectacular finish in the heart of the historic city centre, the final prize-giving ceremony will be held at the AC Milano headquarters in Corso Venezia.

Within this fourteenth Historical Re-enactment will be held, as per tradition, the prestigious ‘Coppa delle Dame’, conceived for the first time at the beginning of the last century, thanks to the conspicuous participation of female crews and the intuition of the organisers of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo.

Many, then, are the elements that distinguish and contribute to recall the timeless charm of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo, which over the years has seen great champions of the wheel and illustrious personalities of the international jet set race, testifying to the exclusivity and peculiarity of the race, which combines tradition, competition, elegance and savoir faire in a perfect mix.

Registration now open for the 14th Historical Re-enactment – Revolutionary road

On the occasion of Milano AutoClassica, scheduled at Rho Fiera Milano from 18 to 20 November 2022, the organisation of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo will be present with a dedicated corner inside the institutional stand of ACI Storico.

In parallel with the Fair, the Coppa Milano-Sanremo opens to the public the entries for the 14th edition of the Historical Re-enactment, which will be held from 23 to 26 March 2023, reaffirming its place in the panorama of the great classic races thanks to its presence within the Italian Great Events Championship organised by ACI Sport, which also includes the Coppa delle Alpi, the Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti, the Gran Premio Nuvolari and the Targa Florio Classica.

Participation in the race will be restricted to cars built between 1906 and 1990 with an F.I.V.A. passport, or F.I.A. Heritage badge, or A.S.I. homologation, or A.C.I. Sport badge, or belonging to a brand register. Following the success of last year’s edition, the possibility of participating in the ‘Rendez-Vous’, the exclusive Tribute reserved for modern supercars and the most iconic youngtimers built from 1990 to the present day, is reconfirmed.

The ‘Lady’ of the races, which has always been a great attraction for Italian and foreign crews, both male and female, will implement a real revolution during its 14th edition: the race days will increase from three to four and the route will undergo an epoch-making inversion in the more than 100-year history of the Coppa Milano Sanremo.

With a view to creating an even more exciting race format, after the traditional start at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, the ‘cars of yesterday’ will cross enchanting landscapes along a route of more than 900 km (made even more exciting by more than 100 special stages), which will take them on Friday evening to the first intermediate stage in Sanremo, before continuing on Saturday to Genova, where an exclusive défilé will be held along the streets of the Ligurian capital. On the final day of Sunday, the competition will continue to Milan where, after a spectacular arrival in the heart of the city centre, it will end with the final prize-giving ceremony at the AC Milano headquarters in Corso Venezia.

As per tradition, the 14th Historical Re-enactment will include the prestigious “Coppa delle Dame”, conceived for the first time at the beginning of the last century thanks to the conspicuous participation of female crews and the insight of the organisers of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo.

Yesterday, Saturday 2 April, saw the conclusion of the XIII Historical Re-enactment of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo, which started on Thursday 31 March from the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, with the victory of crew no. 5 made up of Fontanella and Covelli at the wheel of a 1939 Lancia Aprilia, at their debut in the competition. In second place was the experienced pair of Aliverti and Valente (no. 1) in a 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Zagato SS. Great performance also for the third classified crew made up of Di Pietra and Di Pietra at the wheel of a 1938 Fiat 508 C (no. 4), in what was a hard-fought competition until the last lap after a final day full of twists and turns up till the finishing line.

“This is the first time we have taken part in this race, which we have always heard about over the last few years, and indeed our expectations have been amply fulfilled: it is a very beautiful and demanding race, particularly adrenalin-fuelled. Of this race we were amazed by the fast pace that kept us focused on each step, we started confident of our possibilities and despite the weather did not play in our favor we remained focused until the end and got this important result” – says Gianmario Fontanella, winning driver of the XIII Historical Re-enactment of the Coppa Milano – Sanremo.

Spectacle and competition were not lacking in this edition of the “Lady” of the races, with an event that has seen the crews, Italian and international, compete in over one hundred special stages (including six medium), confronting in urban and natural landscapes not only with exciting and unconventional tests, but also with adverse weather conditions. In fact, after two days alternating between rain and lightening, the crews had to surrender to the unfavourable weather, due to snow at low altitude, the race was in fact suspended for the Rapallo – Loano section. Without losing enthusiasm, the cars of the past faced the afternoon tests on the treacherous curves of Colle San Bartolomeo and D’Oggia, concluding the sporting part in a sunny Sanremo, the famous City of Flowers, ready to crown as every year the winners of the Historical Re-enactment that bears its name.

The “Lady” of the races brought to the track an edition full of unmissable logistical and sporting novelties in a perfect blend of competition and spectacle, tradition and savoir faire, elements that have always made the Coppa Milano Sanremo an incredible event with a unique charm. First of all the official start on Thursday 31st March at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, a cult place of motorsport, where the classic enthusiasts had the opportunity to test themselves in 12 new special stages on the iconic track which also includes the ancient and legendary elevated roads. The tests required a special effort from the crews, but they were surprised and thrilled by the unprecedented experience they were able to take part in. For the first time ever, on Friday 1 April, the crews competed in a series of thrilling time trials held in THE DAP – Dei Missaglia Art Park, a unique urban setting that is part of the INOLTRE project by Urban Up | Unipol dedicated to the regeneration of Milan’s suburbs. In the late afternoon it was time for the eagerly awaited return to Portofino, the pearl of the Tigullio, for the exclusive défilé and elegance contest reserved for the participating cars.

In the splendid setting of the famous piazzetta, the winners of each participating category were announced: the Veteran prize for cars built up to 1946 was won by the 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS Zagato, the Vintage prize for cars built between 1946 and 1976 went to the 1957 Mercedes 300 SL Gullwings, the Instant Classic prize to the 1973 Alfa Romeo GTA Junior and the Sportscar prize to the 2018 Dallara Stradale.

At the end of the charming event, the crews moved to the Principality of Monaco, the cradle of international glamour, in the setting of the prestigious Fairmont Hotel for the unforgettable gala dinner and the final prize-giving ceremony. A perfect finale to seal the virtual twinning between the Autodromo di Monza and the Principality of Monaco, as a tribute to two iconic places, a cult of world motorsport.

This XIII Rievocazione Storica was accompanied by several titles of honour, rewarding the first 10 crews in the general classification of the historic regularity event, the first 3 classified in each grouping and the first 3 classified in the average tests. In addition, the participants were able to aspire to several prizes provided by the sponsors: Mercedes-Benz, through its official dealer Merbag S.p.A., awarded its best crew in the race, the n.40 of Franco Perona and Carla Lertola at the wheel of a 1971 Mercedes 350 SL. The Urban Up | Unipol prize for fair play was presented to the couple Luca Trazzi and Alice Maria Giulini (n.15) on board a 1955 Porsche 356 PRE A. The ‘Nel blu dipinto di blu’ prize was awarded by Marina di Loano to crew no. 84 Maurizio Cesari and Federica Pallotti in their iconic 2001 TVR.

The award for the most sparkling crew offered by Cuvage went to the crew of Enrico Barbieri and Allegra Gucci Barbieri (no. 91) aboard an orange 2021 Lamborghini Huracan, who stood out for their friendliness and liveliness. Honorable mention for the ACI Award proposed by “Via!”, the ACI magazine for the best female crew that was awarded to Antonella Gamberini and Ornella Pietropaolo, crew number 47, who with their 1974 FIAT 124 Abarth also won the “Coppa delle Dame” prize. The Tartarughino club, mediapartner of the event, awarded the ‘Art in Motion’ prize to Paolo Milini and Simona Roscio, crew number 12, on board a 1952 Jaguar XK 120C.

The XIII Historical Re-enactment boasted illustrious partners: Urban Up | Unipol, the project dedicated to the enhancement of the real estate assets of the Unipol Group, and Mercedes-Benz, as institutional partner of the event, through its official dealer Merbag S.p.A. Among the important partners, there was the consolidated collaboration with Cuvage, the Italian excellence of classic method sparkling wine, which was the official supplier of the race for the beverage sector, Marina di Loano S.p.A., which hosted one of the most fascinating stages of the race, Tag Heuer – Official Time Keeper, Riva – Brand Experience Santa Margherita Ligure, Milano Verticale| UNA Esperienze, exclusive location of the opening night.

Today saw the start of the second day of the XIII Historical Re-enactment of the Coppa Milano – Sanremo, the most fascinating and historic race in Italy, which will be run until 2 April 2022 with the same spirit and the same passion as the gentlemen drivers who created it in 1906.

The “Lady” of the races already from the first day brought to the track an edition full of unmissable logistical and sporting novelties, in a perfect blend of competition and spectacle, tradition and savoir faire, elements that have always made the Coppa Milano-Sanremo an unmissable event with a unique and exclusive charm for gentlemen drivers and personalities of the international jet set; not to mention the 100 special stages (of which 6 medium) to make the race even more exciting and challenging from a sporting point of view.

Around seventy cars of great prestige and historical value have taken part in the event since yesterday, with Italian and international crews enthusiastic about returning to the track to take part in the competition which, once again this year, is confirmed as the protagonist within the 2022 Italian Great Events Championship of ACI Sport, reserved for classic regularity races.

Among the masterpieces in the race there are an Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS Zagato of 1929 and a Jaguar XK-120 of 1952 together with an Alfa Romeo GTA Junior of 1973, examples full of charm and attractiveness. There was also great enthusiasm for the quartet of Mercedes 300 SL Gullwings, the iconic Stuttgart ‘Gull Wing’, a legendary car of inestimable historical value.

The Coppa Milano-Sanremo officially started for the first time yesterday at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, a cult location for motorsport where, in addition to the traditional technical and sporting checks and the always exciting free laps on the track, classic enthusiasts had the opportunity to try 12 new special stages on the iconic track which also includes the ancient and legendary elevated roads. The tests required a special effort from the crews, but they were surprised and thrilled by the unprecedented experience they were able to take part in. In the afternoon the inaugural parade of the cars headed for Milan to be presented in front of the historic headquarters of AC Milano in Corso Venezia, in the heart of the city, concluding the day with the official opening in the fascinating spaces of the urban garden of Milano Verticale | UNA Esperienze, located in the Porta Nuova – Garibaldi – Corso Como district.

At dawn today, Friday 1 April, the crews set off from Piazza XXV Aprile to take part in a series of thrilling time trials which, for the first time ever, took place in an unusual urban setting. In fact, THE DAP – Dei Missaglia Art Park, was the venue for this special experience, which is part of the INOLTRE project by Urban Up | Unipol dedicated to the regeneration of Milan’s suburbs, of which THE DAP is the most recent and important element, perfectly combining with the important programme to enhance the area that the Coppa Milano-Sanremo carries out year after year.

The backdrop for the first stop of the race was the splendid natural scenery in the inland between Piemonte and Liguria. After a pleasant break in Acqui Terme at the Cantine Cuvage, the crews travelled to the intermediate stage in Rapallo, concluding with the unmissable défilé and contest of elegance in the fascinating setting of the Marina di Portofino, the pearl of Tigullio.

The event is reserved for participating cars and divided into 4 categories: Veteran for cars built up to 1946, Vintage from 1946 to 1976, Instant Classic and Sportscar.

Tomorrow, Saturday 2 April, the crews will be the protagonists of the last hard-fought challenges: after the traditional start from Rapallo, they will enter the heart of Genova up to Piazza de Ferrari and, after more than one hundred special stages (six of which are medium), they will face the treacherous curves of the Passo del Turchino, Passo del Faiallo, Colle d’Oggia and Melogno, before stopping for a light lunch at the prestigious Yacht Club in Marina di Loano.

The race will see the sporting part come to an end in Sanremo, the famous City of Flowers, ready to crown, as it does every year, the winners of the Historical Re-enactment that bears its name. At the start today the new edition of the most charming and ancient race in Italy

At the start today from the Autodromo Nazionale of Monza the XIII Historical Re-enactment of the Coppa Milano – Sanremo, the most charming and emblazoned race in Italy, scheduled from March 31 to April 2, 2022 and that will be run with the same spirit as always and the same passion of the gentlemen drivers who created it in 1906.  The “Lady” of the races is ready for an edition full of unmissable news, logistical and sporting: if on the one hand the route for over 700 kilometers will offer to the “yesterday’s cars” the discovery of landscapes of timeless charm through the territories of Lombardia, Piemonte and Liguria until you reach the picturesque French Riviera, on the other hand the over 100 special tests (including 6 average) will make the race even more exciting and challenging.

About seventy cars of great prestige and historical value will take part in the event, with Italian and international crews, enthusiastic to return to the track by taking part in the competition that also this year is reconfirmed as the protagonist within the 2022 Italian Great Events Championship of ACI Sport, reserved for classic regularity races. The Coppa Milano-Sanremo officially kicked off for the first time this morning at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, a cult location for motorsport. Here the event, on the occasion of the 100 years of the Autodromo, celebrated the legendary Temple of Speed with an unprecedented experience reserved for participants. Thanks to the well-established partnership with Mercedes-Benz, as institutional partner of the event, through the official dealer Merbag S.p.A. AMG brand lovers had the opportunity to exclusively test their favorite supercars on the more than 5,700 meters of the legendary Brianza track. In the hospitality lounge of the Autodromo di Monza, Frau took care of the guests of the event with a lounge area created with a selection of exclusive products, where two brand new Ghepard Maranello simulators offered by Wave Italy were also set up to allow the guests to experience the emotion of driving the drivers on the track.

In addition to the traditional technical and sporting checks and the always exciting free laps on the track, classic enthusiasts had the opportunity to test themselves in 12 new special stages on the iconic track that will also include the ancient and legendary elevated roads and some parts used exclusively in the recent ACI Rally Monza, the final round of the FIA World Rally Championship. In the afternoon there was the inaugural parade of cars to Milan to be then presented in front of the historic headquarters of AC Milano in Corso Venezia, in the heart of the city. The day ended with the official opening that will take place in the fascinating spaces of the urban garden of Milano Verticale | UNA Esperienze, located in the district of Porta Nuova – Garibaldi – Corso Como.

Everything ready for the start of the new edition of the oldest race in Italy

The wait is over for the XIII Historical Re-enactment of the Coppa Milano – Sanremo, the most charming and emblazoned race in Italy, which will start tomorrow and will be run from 31st March to 2nd April 2022 with the same spirit as always and the same passion of the gentlemen drivers who conceived it in 1906. The “Lady” of the races is preparing for an edition full of unmissable logistical and sporting novelties: if on the one hand the route for more than 700 kilometres will offer the “cars of yesterday” the discovery of landscapes of timeless charm through the territories of Lombardia, Piemonte and Liguria until reaching the picturesque Cote d’Azur, on the other hand the more than 100 special stages (including 6 medium) will not fail to make the race even more exciting and captivating.

About seventy cars of great prestige and historical value will take part in the event, with Italian and international crews, enthusiastic about returning to the track to take part in the competition that this year is once again the protagonist of the 2022 Italian Great Events Championship of ACI Sport, reserved for classic regularity races. Among the masterpieces in the race you can admire an Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS Zagato of 1929, together with a Jaguar XK-120 of 1952 and an Alfa Romeo GTA Junior of 1973, examples full of charm and attractiveness. Great expectations for the quartet of Mercedes 300 SL Gullwings, the iconic “Gull Wings” of the Stuttgart-based company, a legendary car of inestimable historical value.

The Coppa Milano-Sanremo will officially start for the first time tomorrow, Thursday 31 March, at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, a cult location for motorsport. Here the event, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Autodromo, will pay homage to the legendary Temple of Speed with an unprecedented experience reserved for participants. In fact, in addition to the traditional technical and sporting checks and the always exciting free laps on the track, classic enthusiasts will have the opportunity to test themselves in 12 new special stages on the iconic track that will also include the ancient and legendary elevated roads and some parts used exclusively in the recent ACI Rally Monza, the final round of the FIA World Rally Championship.

In the afternoon, the inaugural parade of cars will set off for Milan, where they will be presented from 4.30 p.m. onwards in front of AC Milano’s historic headquarters in Corso Venezia, in the heart of the city.

The day will end with the official opening, which will take place in the fascinating spaces of the urban garden of Milano Verticale | UNA Esperienze, located in the Porta Nuova – Garibaldi – Corso Como district.

On Friday 1 April, the crews will set off from Piazza XXV Aprile to take part in an exclusive series of exciting time trials, which for the first time will be held in a brand new urban setting. It will be THE DAP – Dei Missaglia Art Park, which will host this special experience that is part of the INOLTRE project by Urban Up | Unipol dedicated to the regeneration of the Milanese suburbs, of which THE DAP is the most recent and important element, perfectly matching the important programme of enhancement of the territory that the Coppa Milano-Sanremo carries out year after year.

The backdrop to the first leg of the race is the splendid natural scenery which winds its way inland between Piemonte and Liguria and which will accompany the crews, after a pleasant intermediate break in Acqui Terme at the Cuvage Cellars, to the intermediate stage in Rapallo, before concluding with the unmissable parade reserved for the participating cars, in the fascinating setting of the Marina di Portofino.

On Saturday 2 April, the crews will take part in the last hard-fought challenges: after the traditional start from Rapallo, they will enter the heart of Genova, the treacherous curves of Passo del Turchino, Passo del Faiallo, Colle d’Oggia and Melogno, before stopping for a light lunch at the prestigious Yacht Club in Marina di Loano. The race will see the end of the sporting part in Sanremo, the famous City of Flowers, ready to crown as every year the winners of the Historical Re-enactment that bears its name.

With a view to guaranteeing the competition a unique cosmopolitan experience, the Coppa Milano-Sanremo will return to the Principality of Monaco, the cradle of international glamour, in the setting of the prestigious Fairmont Hotel for the unforgettable gala dinner and the final prize-giving ceremony. A conclusion to seal the virtual twinning between the Autodromo di Monza and the Principality of Monaco, as a tribute to two iconic places, cult of world motorsport.

Just a few days separate us from the start of the XIII Rievocazione Storica of the Coppa Milano – Sanremo, the most fascinating and historic race in Italy, scheduled from 31 March to 2 April 2022. The “Lady” of the races is preparing for an edition full of unmissable novelties, both logistical and sporting, in a perfect blend of competition and spectacle, tradition and savoirfaire, elements that have made the Coppa Milano-Sanremo since 1906 an unmissable event with a unique and exclusive charm for gentlemen drivers and personalities from the international jet set.

The event, reconfirmed as a protagonist within the 2022 Italian Great Events Championship of ACI Sport, reserved for the most important classic regularity races, points the lights on Liguria, a region that will enthusiastically welcome the crews and will host an important part of the competition.

Program of the XIII Historical Re-enactment:

With renewed spirit and passion, the “cars of yesterday” are warming up their engines to embark on a route of over 700 kilometres, between Lombardy, Piedmont and Liguria, touching on towns and landscapes of timeless charm.

On Thursday 31 March, the Coppa Milano-Sanremo will start for the first time from the Autodromo di Monza with the 12 new special stages on the iconic route which will also include the ancient and legendary elevated roads, and will continue with the official presentation in the heart of Milan. After an emotionally charged day, at the first light of Friday 1 April, the crews, after tackling a series of exciting time trials in the unprecedented urban context of THE DAP – Dei Missaglia Art Park, will cross the splendid natural scenery of the Piedmont hinterland to enjoy a pleasant break in Acqui Terme at the Cantine Cuvage and then head for the Ligurian territory.

Here, as per tradition, the intermediate stage in Rapallo will await them, followed by the eagerly awaited return to Portofino, the pearl of the Tigullio, for the unmissable défilé and contest of elegance in the fascinating setting of the Marina. The event will be reserved for participating cars and divided into 4 categories: Veteran for cars built up to 1946, Vintage from 1946 to 1976, Instant Classic and Sportscar. The second day of the race will end with a stay at the exclusive Hotel Excelsior in Rapallo.

On Saturday 2 April, the crews will take part in the last hard-fought challenges: after the traditional start from Rapallo, they will enter the heart of Genova as far as Piazza De Ferrari and, after more than one hundred special stages (six of which are medium), they will tackle the tricky bends of Passo del Turchino,  Passo del Faiallo, Colle d’Oggia and Melogno, before stopping for a light lunch at the prestigious Yacht Club in Marina di Loano.

The race will see the sporting part come to an end in Sanremo, the famous City of Flowers, ready to crown, as it does every year, the winners of the Historical Re-enactment that bears its name.

With only a few weeks to go before the start, expectations are growing for the XIII Historical Re-enactment of the Coppa Milano – Sanremo, Italy’s most glamorous and emblazoned race, scheduled from 31 March to 2 April 2022. The event is reconfirmed as a protagonist within the Italian Championship Great Events 2022 of ACI Sport, reserved to the most important classic regularity races.

“The success and the following of the ‘Coppa Milano Sanremo’, are under everyone’s eyes. And it could not be otherwise: it is the oldest car race in Italy, which was held for the first time in 1906, a year before the bicycle race of the same name. Also in the next edition the top drivers of the regularity will be able to confront themselves in a complex and satisfying route from the exquisitely sporting point of view”, concluded President La Russa.
