The second day of competition of the XIV Rievocazione Storica of Coppa Milano – Sanremo and back started today, the italian most glamorous and emblazoned race, which will see more than one hundred crews compete along a revolutionary route of over 900 kilometres with the same spirit as always and the same passion of the gentlemen drivers who conceived it in 1906. The crews will tackle 115 special stages, crossing the territories of Lombardy, Piedmont and Liguria before returning to Milan.

With a perfect blend of competition and spectacle, tradition and savoir faire, which has always made the Coppa Milano-Sanremo an unmissable event with a unique and exclusive charm, the “Lady” of the races already from the first day has brought to the track an edition full of unmissable novelties, both logistic and sporting.

The XIV Rievocazione Storica officially kicked off yesterday at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, where after the traditional sporting scrutineering, classic enthusiasts had the opportunity to try their hand at 24 new special stages on the iconic track, which also includes the ancient and legendary elevated roads. The day ended with the official opening held at the Milano Verticale | UNA Esperienze, the exclusive UNA Group design hotel located in the Porta Nuova – Garibaldi – Corso Como district.

At the first light of dawn today, the crews set off from Piazza XXV Aprile – Milan for the first timed trials, passing through the towns of Monferrato, and then headed towards Asti, where after the parade through the historic centre, they indulged in a light lunch organised by the Consortium of Asti Spumante and Moscato d’Asti in the unique setting of Palazzo Mazzetti. The competition continued through the territories of the Langhe, and then tackled the Colle d’Oggia and the Melogno; along the afternoon’s route there were approximately 70 laps for a total of 6 timed trials and 5 average trials.

The crews will end the second day of the race in the late afternoon in Sanremo, the famous City of Flowers, with the traditional parade along the streets of the city centre and dinner in the prestigious location of the Sanremo Casino.

Tomorrow Saturday, March 25, the competition will comprise 3 timed tests with 26 timed laps and 4 average tests; the crews will set off from Sanremo, tackling the Colle d’Oggia again, then passing through the medieval village of Zuccarello, before arriving at the sea for a light lunch at Yacht Club in Marina di Loano. In the afternoon, passing through Colle del Melogno and Pontinvrea, crews will arrive in the heart of Genoa, the final destination of the day, where the exclusive gala dinner will take place in a suggestive location: the Acquario di Genova.

ENGINES WARM UP FOR THE XIV RE-ENACTMENT HISTORICAL COMMEMORATION OF THE COPPA MILANO-SANREMO

23 – 26 MARCH 2023

The new edition of Italy’s oldest race and its most important initiatives in  Liguria presented in Genova

Genova, 16 March 2023

With just a few days to go before the start of the XIV Rievocazione Storica of Coppa Milano – Sanremo, scheduled from 23 to 26 March 2023, the engines are warming up for an edition that promises to be full of unmissable logistic and sporting novelties. The event reconfirms itself as protagonist within the ACI Sport’s Italian Great Events Championship 2023, reserved to the most important classic regularity races, and points its lights on Liguria, a region that will enthusiastically welcome the crews and host a relevant part of the competition.

Augusto Sartori, Councillor for Tourism and Major Events of the Region of Liguria says: “The historic commemoration of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo has already reached its fourteenth edition and can therefore be defined as a classic motor race because year after year it attracts an ever-increasing number of enthusiasts, not only motor enthusiasts but also the merely curious, attracted by these beautiful and fascinating vintage racing cars. This race is also an opportunity to highlight our region, since half of the race will take place on the roads of Liguria. Sanremo, the Riviera di Ponente, and Genoa: coastal and inland territories characterised by magnificent landscapes that I’m sure will win over the drivers involved in the competition”.

‘A sporting event that allows us to relive, as in a film, the emotions of the past,’ comments Regional Councillor for Sport Simona Ferro. – Suffice it to say that the top five cars in the 2022 edition were all registered over eighty years ago. Events like this also represent an extraordinary flywheel for the economy and tourism of the region: once again, the world of motors will be able to bring further prestige to Liguria thanks to the numerous important initiatives that will take place on our wonderful Riviera”.

Programme of the XIV Rievocazione Storica:

Numerous new features are planned, first and foremost the route that will see Milan as the starting and finishing point, and an increase of the route to over 900 kilometres, most of them in the Liguria region. Yesterday’s racing cars will compete in 113 special stages, with more than 50% to be tackled on the Ligurian route, making the race even more enthralling and captivating from a sporting point of view. The region confirms itself as a protagonist with its timelessly fascinating landscapes and picturesque villages that will host the decisive stages of the historic re-enactment.

After the traditional departure from the Autodromo di Monza on Thursday 23 March, where the technical and sporting scrutineering and the exciting free laps on the track will be held, and the official opening in the heart of Milan, on Friday 24 March the crews will cross the villages of Monferrato, heading for the Ligurian territory.

The second day of the race will end in Sanremo, the famous City of Flowers, with the traditional défilé that will wind its way through the streets of the city centre and dinner in the prestigious location of the Sanremo Casino.

“Sanremo will once again enthusiastically welcome the stage of the Coppa Milano Sanremo, the historical commemoration of the oldest competition in Italy, which, year after year, arouses more and more fascination. – affirms Giuseppe Faraldi, Councillor for Tourism and Sport of the Municipality of Sanremo – There are many novelties in this edition, for an even richer event that is fully inserted in the sporting tradition of our territory and that will be able to offer an exciting show. To the crews, the accompanying persons and all those who, in various ways, are involved in the event, our best wishes for a happy sporting stay in Sanremo”.

On Saturday 25 March, the crews will set off from Sanremo, tackling the Colle d’Oggia once again and then passing through the medieval village of Zuccarello before arriving at the sea for a light lunch in the prestigious setting of the Yacht Club in Marina di Loano.

“We will host for the fourth time the Historical Re-enactment of the Coppa Milano – Sanremo, which this year will stop in Marina di Loano on 25 March. An event of which we are Gold Sponsors and therefore convinced supporters, which ideally unites two worlds that share the values of passion and style,” explains Gianluca Mazza, CEO of Marina di Loano. “This is an exclusive opportunity for a further enhancement of an area where Marina di Loano is recognised by the international press as one of the 10 most beautiful marinas in the world and at the forefront in terms of respect and protection of the environment. In fact, the installation of a photovoltaic system is only the latest element of our concrete actions put in place for sustainability.”

In the afternoon, passing through Colle del Melogno and Pontinvrea, we will arrive in the heart of Genova, the final destination of the day, where the exclusive gala dinner will take place in an evocative location: the Aquarium of Genova.

We welcome with great pleasure the choice of Genoa as the venue for the presentation of the 14th historic commemoration of the Coppa Milano – Sanremo, the oldest race in our peninsula and the main event of ACI Sport’s Great Events 2023,” underlined Federica Cavalleri, Councillor delegated to Great Events of the Municipality of Genova. “Sunday 26 March will be a day of great festivity, and I invite all citizens and visitors to Piazza De Ferrari to admire the start of the historic racing cars and to immerse ourselves all together in the elegant atmosphere of this historic race, with its timeless charm.

On Sunday 26 March, the race will start from Piazza De Ferrari in the centre of Genova, where there will be a brief presentation of the cars to the public. The historic cars will then tackle the climb of Monte Fasce to Uscio, cross the Portello Pass and Mongiardino Ligure, and then arrive in Milan, where after the arrival in the heart of the historic centre, the final prize-giving ceremony will be held at the AC Milano headquarters in Corso Venezia.

For the first time ever, the event will see the city of Milan as the starting and finishing point, thus transforming the route from linear to circular, a substantial novelty both from a sporting and logistical point of view that will bring the actual competition days to four.

“The Historical Re-enactment of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo has been confirmed as a round of the ACI Sport’s Italian Great Events Championship 2023, which as every year has events full of fascination on its programme,” says Geronimo La Russa, president of Automobile Club Milano. “The success and following of the last editions convinced the organisers to extend the oldest race in Italy by one day, and as Automobile Club Milano we are proud to host both its start and finish, offering the Milanese people the chance to admire the participating cars, which constitute an immeasurable heritage of history and culture”.

The XIV Rievocazione Storica boasts illustrious partners: Urban Up | Unipol, the project dedicated to the valorisation of the Unipol Group’s real estate assets, and Mercedes-Benz, as institutional partner of the event, through its official dealer Merbag S.p.A. Riva Brand Experience, exclusive partner of the traditional contest of dynamic elegance that will take place during the race, will be Joint Presenting Partner of the edition. Among the supporters of the event, the Consorzio dell’Asti DOCG, official supplier of the race for the beverage sector, Marina di Loano S.p.A., which will host one of the most fascinating stages of the route, Wyler Vetta – Official Time Keeper, Nashi Argan – Official Beauty supplier and Milano Verticale | UNA Esperienze, hospitality partner and exclusive location of the opening night.

The Official Suppliers of the 2023 edition are: ACI Global, Castrol, Milano Classiche, OLIO, Asti Vibes, Lycam, Wave Italy, Officina delle Essenze, Casinò di Sanremo, Banca Caraglio, Foulon, Esteticar, Classic Rental Car, Poltu Quatu Classic, Zero Time, Argo-Be Traced.

Ahead of the blazoned event, from 7 to 12 March, there will be an unprecedented photographic exhibition featuring some of the iconic cars of Italy’s oldest motor race. The exhibition will take place within THE DAP – Dei Missaglia Art Park, part of the INOLTRE project by Urban Up | Unipol dedicated to the regeneration of Milan’s suburbs, of which THE DAP is the most recent and important piece, perfectly matching the important programme of valorisation of the territory that the Coppa Milano-Sanremo carries out year after year.

Programme of the XIV Historical Re-enactment:

Numerous novelties are foreseen, first of all the route that will see Milan as the starting and finishing point and an increase of the route to over 900 kilometres, that is 25% more than the last edition. The ‘bolides of the past” will cross landscapes of timeless charm, alternating pleasant views with urban scenery through the territories of Lombardy, Piedmont and Liguria, during which they will be able to challenge each other in 113 special stages, thus making the race even more enthralling and captivating from a sporting point of view.

On Thursday 23 March, the crews will gather at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, a cult location of motorsport, where after the technical and sporting checks and exciting free laps on the track, the race proper will begin with the first timed trials. The classic enthusiasts will in fact have the opportunity to compete in 2 special stages with 24 laps that will take place on the iconic track, which will also include the ancient and legendary elevated roads. The day will end with the official opening that will take place at Milano Verticale | UNA Esperienze, the exclusive Gruppo UNA design hotel located in the Porta Nuova – Garibaldi – Corso Como district.

The following days will be characterised by great news: at first light on Friday 24 March the crews will set off from Milan for the first time trials, will drive through the villages of Monferrato, and then head towards Asti, where after the parade through the historic centre, they will enjoy a light lunch organised by the Consorzio dell’Asti Spumante e del Moscato d’Asti in the unique setting of Palazzo Mazzetti.

Commented the senior vice-president of the Consorzio dell’Asti Spumante e del Moscato d’Asti, Stefano Ricagno: “It is a great honour to be the official supplier of such an important event that promotes the style and history of Italian motoring. Like the historic cars participating in the 2023 edition of the XIV Rievocazione Storica della Coppa Milano – Sanremo, the Consorzio dell’Asti Spumante e del Moscato d’Asti is a great excellence of Made in Italy. This is demonstrated by the growing favour of consumers in Italy and around the world who approach Asti Spumante and Moscato d’Asti not only with the pleasure of choosing the aromatic bubbles that come from the grapes grown in the vineyards in the heart of those Piedmontese wine-growing landscapes that since 2014, the first in Italy, are World Heritage protected by Unesco, but also with the awareness, never to be forgotten, of a responsible and moderate consumption”.

The competition will then get to the heart of the matter, continuing through the Langhe territories, then tackling the Colle d’Oggia and the Melogno; along the afternoon route there will be about 70 laps for a total of 6 timed tests and 5 average tests. The second day of the race will end in Sanremo, the famous City of Flowers, with the traditional défilé along the streets of the city centre and the dinner in the prestigious location of the Sanremo Casino.

On Saturday 25 March, the competition will include 3 timed tests with 26 timed laps and 4 average tests; the crews will set off from Sanremo, tackling the Colle d’Oggia again, then passing through the medieval village of Zuccarello, before arriving at the sea for a light lunch at the prestigious setting of the Yacht Club in Marina di Loano. In the afternoon, passing through Colle del Melogno and Pontinvrea, we will arrive in the heart of Genova, the final destination of the day, where the exclusive gala dinner will take place in a suggestive location: the Acquario di Genova.

Sunday 26 March will be the decisive day, which will see the cars of yesterday – after a passage in Piazza De’ Ferrari in the centre of Genoa – tackle the climb of Monte Fasce up to Uscio, cross the territories of the Portello Pass and Mongiardino Ligure, and then arrive in Pavia, where there will be a time control that will mark the end of the timed part of the race. On this day there will be two time trials and one average trial, for a total of about 15 time trials plus an average trial. The Coppa Milano Sanremo will then move to Milan, where after a spectacular finish in the heart of the historic centre, the final prize-giving ceremony will be held at the headquarters of AC Milano in Corso Venezia, which this year celebrates 120 years of activity. An important milestone that the Coppa Milano Sanremo is honoured to celebrate, sharing with the renowned club the spirit and culture of the cars that have made history.

Within this fourteenth Historical Re-enactment will be held, as per tradition, the prestigious ‘Coppa delle Dame’, conceived for the first time at the beginning of the last century, thanks to the conspicuous participation of female crews and the intuition of the organisers of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo.

Many, therefore, are the elements that distinguish and contribute to recall the timeless charm of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo, which over the years has seen great champions of the wheel and illustrious personalities of the international jet set, testifying to the exclusivity and uniqueness of the race, which combines tradition, competition, elegance and savoir faire in a perfect mix.

The noble event is part of the ACI Sport Italian Great Events Championship, reserved for the most important classic regularity races, which also includes the Coppa delle Alpi, the Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti, the Gran Premio Nuvolari and the Targa Florio Classica.

The XIV Historical Re-enactment of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo is promoted by Equipe Grand Prix, Automobile Club Milano, ACI Storico, ACI Sport, Milano Corse, Autodromo di Monza, Epoca Championship and sponsored by: Lombardy Region, Liguria Region, Piedmont Region, Municipality of Milan, Municipality of Monza, Municipality of Asti, Municipality of Sanremo, Municipality of Genoa, Municipality of Loano, Municipality of Sassello, Municipality of Pavia.
