XIV COPPA MILANO-SANREMO: LESS THAN A MONTH TO THE CLOSING DATE FOR REGISTRATIONS

23 – 26 MARCH 2023

Expectation is growing for the revolutionary edition of the Coppa Milano Sanremo and back

Milan, 6 February 2023

Only a few weeks separate us from the closing of registrations for the XIV Rievocazione Storica della Coppa Milano – Sanremo, the most charming and emblazoned race in Italy, scheduled from 23 to 26 March 2023. The “Lady” of the races is preparing for an edition full of unmissable novelties, both logistic and sporting, in a perfect mix of competition and spectacularity that has always distinguished it.

Coppa Milano Sanremo has always been an unforgettable occasion of entertainment with a unique and exclusive appeal for Italian and foreign crews, sees for this XIV Rievocazione an important increase in the number of participating cars, estimating more than 30% more than the 2022 edition.

The XIV Rievocazione Storica boasts illustrious partners: Urban Up | Unipol, the project dedicated to the valorisation of the real estate assets of the Unipol Group, and Mercedes-Benz, as institutional partner of the event, through its official dealer Merbag S.p.A. Among the event’s partners are the Consorzio dell’Asti DOCG, official supplier of the race for the beverage sector, Marina di Loano S.p.A., which will host one of the most fascinating stages of the course, Wyler Vetta – Official Time Keeper and Riva Brand Experience exclusive partner of the traditional dynamic elegance contest that will take place during the race.

Ahead of the blazoned event, from 7 to 12 March, there will be an unprecedented photographic exhibition featuring some of the iconic cars of Italy’s oldest motor race. The exhibition will take place within THE DAP – Dei Missaglia Art Park, part of the INOLTRE project by Urban Up | Unipol dedicated to the regeneration of Milan’s suburbs, of which THE DAP is the most recent and important piece, perfectly matching the important program of territorial enhancement that the Coppa Milano-Sanremo carries out year after year.

Program of the 14th Historical Re-enactment:

For the first time ever, the event will see the city of Milan as the starting and finishing point, thus will transform the route from linear to circular, a substantial novelty both from a sporting and logistical point of view that will increase the route to over 900 kilometres, i.e. 25% more than the last edition. There will be four days of actual competition, during which the crews will be able to compete in over 110 special stages, making the race even more exciting and captivating from a sporting point of view.

On Thursday 23 March the crews will gather at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, a cult location of motorsport, where after the technical and sporting scrutineering and the exciting free laps on the track, the race proper will begin with the first timed trials. The classic enthusiasts will in fact have the opportunity to compete in 2 special stages with 24 laps that will take place on the iconic track, which will also include the ancient and legendary elevated roads. The day will end with the official opening, which will take place in the exclusive Porta Nuova – Garibaldi – Corso Como district.

The following days will be characterised by great novelties: at first light on Friday 24 March, the crews will set off from Milan for the first time trials, will drive through the villages of Monferrato, and then head towards Asti, where they will parade through the historic centre. After a break, the competition will get to the heart of the matter, continuing through the territories of the Langhe, then tackling the Colle d’Oggia and the Melogno; along the afternoon route there will be approximately 70 laps for a total of 6 timed tests and 5 average tests. The second day of the race will end in Sanremo, the famous City of Flowers, with the traditional défilé along the streets of the city centre and the dinner in the prestigious location of the Sanremo Casino.

On Saturday 25 March the competition will comprise 3 timed trials with 26 time trials and 4 average trials; the crews will set off from Sanremo, tackling the Colle d’Oggia once again, before passing through the medieval village of Zuccarello and arriving at the sea for a light lunch in the prestigious setting of the Yacht Club in Marina di Loano. In the afternoon, passing through the Colle del Melogno and Pontinvrea, they will reach the heart of Genoa, the final destination of the day, where the exclusive gala dinner will take place in a suggestive location: the Acquario di Genova.

Sunday 26 March will be the decisive day, which will see the cars – after a passage in Piazza De’ Ferrari in the centre of Genova – tackle the climb of Monte Fasce to Uscio, cross the territories of the Portello Pass and Mongiardino Ligure, and then arrive in Pavia where there will be a time control that will mark the end of the timed part of the race. On this day there will be two time trials and one average trial, for a total of about 15 time trials plus an average trial. The Coppa Milano Sanremo will then move to Milan, where after a spectacular finish in the heart of the historic centre, the final prize-giving ceremony will be held at the headquarters of AC Milano in Corso Venezia, which this year celebrates 120 years of activity. An important milestone that the Coppa Milano Sanremo is honoured to celebrate, sharing with the renowned club the spirit and culture of the cars that have made history.

As part of this fourteenth Historical Re-enactment, the prestigious ‘Coppa delle Dame’ (Ladies’ Cup) will be held, as per tradition. It was first conceived at the beginning of the last century, thanks to the conspicuous participation of female crews and the insight of the organisers of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo.

Many, therefore, are the elements that distinguish and contribute to recalling the timeless appeal of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo, which over the years has seen great driving champions and illustrious personalities from the international jet set race, testifying to the exclusivity and uniqueness of the race, which combines tradition, competition, elegance and savoir faire in a perfect mix.

The blazoned event is part of ACI Sport’s Italian Great Events Championship, reserved for the most important classic regularity races, of which the Coppa delle Alpi, the Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti, the Gran Premio Nuvolari and the Targa Florio Classica are also part.

The possibility of taking part in the ‘Rendez-Vous’, the exclusive Tribute reserved for modern supercars and the most iconic youngtimers built from 1990 to the present day, has been reconfirmed.
