XIV COPPA MILANO-SANREMO: REVOLUTIONARY ROAD

23 – 26 MARCH 2023

Four days of competition filled with glamour, style, motors and breathtaking scenery along a revolutionary 900-plus kilometer route that will take crews from Milano to Sanremo to return to the Lombard capital on Sunday after the third day’s stop in Genova

Milan, 12 January 2023

Just over two months separate us from the return of the legendary Coppa Milano-Sanremo, a blend of glamour, style, engines and breathtaking scenery that has always characterized the Italy’s most charming and emblazoned competition. Now in its 14th Historical Re-enactment, the “Lady of Races” is warming up its engines for an edition that already promises to be revolutionary.

With a view to creating an even more compelling race format, the Coppa Milano Sanremo will for the first time ever see the city of Milano as the starting and finishing point of the event, converting the route from linear to circular, a substantial novelty both from a sporting and logistical point of view that will increase the race days from three to four.

From March 23 to 26 2023, Italian and foreign crews, both male and female, will have the opportunity to compete in more than one hundred chronometric tests along the renewed route of over 900 kilometres, that is 30% more than last year’s edition, between Lombardy, Piedmont and Liguria with the same spirit as always and the same passion of the “gentlemen drivers” who conceived it in 1906. The number of average tests will also be increased compared to last year, adding a further element of uncertainty from a sporting point of view. Also this year there will be no lack of competition and entertainment, confirming the Coppa Milano-Sanremo as an unforgettable occasion of entertainment with a unique and exclusive charm.

The event will start on Thursday 23 March with the traditional gathering of the crews at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, the cult location of motorsport. After the technical and sporting checks and the exciting free practice laps on the track, the competition itself will begin with the first timed tests. The classic enthusiasts will have the opportunity to compete in 2 special stages with 24 laps that will be held on the iconic track, which will also include the ancient and legendary elevated roads. The day will end with the official opening, which will take place in the fascinating spaces of the urban garden of Milano Verticale | UNA Esperienze, located in the Porta Nuova – Garibaldi – Corso Como district.

The following days will be characterised by great novelties: at first light on Friday 24 March, the crews will set off from Milan for the first time trials, will drive through the villages of Monferrato, and then head towards Asti, where they will parade through the historic centre. After a break, the competition will get to the heart of the matter, continuing through the territories of the Langhe, then tackling the Colle d’Oggia and the Melogno; along the afternoon route there will be approximately 70 laps for a total of 6 timed tests and 5 average tests. The second day of the race will end in Sanremo, the famous City of Flowers, with the traditional défilé along the streets of the city centre and the dinner in the prestigious location of the Sanremo Casino.

On Saturday 25 March the competition will comprise 3 timed trials with 26 time trials and 4 average trials; the crews will set off from Sanremo, tackling the Colle d’Oggia once again, before passing through the medieval village of Zuccarello and arriving at the sea for a light lunch in the prestigious setting of the Yacht Club in Marina di Loano. In the afternoon, passing through the Colle del Melogno and Pontinvrea, they will

reach the heart of Genova, the final destination of the day, where the exclusive gala dinner will take place in a suggestive location: the Acquario di Genova.

Sunday 26 March will be the decisive day, which will see the cars – after a passage in Piazza De’ Ferrari in the centre of Genoa – tackle the climb of Monte Fasce to Uscio, cross the territories of the Portello Pass and Mongiardino Ligure, and then arrive in Pavia where there will be a time control that will mark the end of the timed part of the race. On this day there will be two time trials and one average trial, for a total of about 15 time trials plus an average trial. The Coppa Milano Sanremo will then move to Milan, where after a spectacular finish in the heart of the historic centre, the final prize-giving ceremony will be held at the headquarters of AC Milano in Corso Venezia, which this year celebrates 120 years of activity. An important milestone that the Coppa Milano Sanremo is honoured to celebrate, sharing with the renowned club the spirit and culture of the cars that have made history.

As part of this fourteenth Historical Re-enactment, the prestigious ‘Coppa delle Dame’ (Ladies’ Cup) will be held, as per tradition. It was first conceived at the beginning of the last century, thanks to the conspicuous participation of female crews and the insight of the organisers of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo.

Many are the elements that distinguish and contribute to recalling the timeless appeal of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo, which over the years has seen great driving champions and illustrious personalities from the international jet set race, testifying to the exclusivity and uniqueness of the race, which combines tradition, competition, elegance and savoir faire in a perfect mix.

The prestigious event is part of ACI Sport’s Italian Great Events Championship, reserved for the most important classic regularity races, of which Coppa delle Alpi, Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti, Gran Premio Nuvolari and Targa Florio Classica are also part.

The possibility of taking part in the ‘Rendez-Vous’, the exclusive Tribute reserved for modern supercars and the most iconic youngtimers built from 1990 to the present day, has been reconfirmed.
